So the other day my boys had a bit of a fight, nothing serious, just your typical 2yr old twin boys scuffle. It was over which one of them could help me with the cleaning!!!
Honestly, I had to stop myself from doing a happy dance there and then! Kids, boys especially, wanting to help with house work!!
I know it’s unlikely to last until they become teenagers so I need to nurture it and help them realise just how much they love cleaning!
I then decided to make them their own kiddie friendly cleaning kit, I’d much rather there are no fights and the boys can ‘help me using clean cloths and no chemicals,
I got these little buckets and used alphabet rub ons to add their names.
I then added a duster, an absorbent wipe and a squirty bottle containing a splash of water and drop of hand soap (they think it’s a cleaning solution).
I sometimes use a list to tick off what I have done, so thought it only fair the boys have one also, plus using the pictures they know exactly what they are and aren’t allowed to ‘clean, don’t want them spraying water on to anything electrical or delicate!
I used Microsoft office clip art for the images, put them in 2 lists over 1 page and added a label, once I had printed the lists I folded them in half, shoved them through the laminator and then trimmed them down.
Using a hole punch I put a hole in each list tied a piece of bakers twine to a marker and then attached the markers to the lists!
And there you have it, kiddie friendly cleaning kits!
If anyone would like the clip art I can ping it to you via email, just ask!
{I want to clarify that I do not advocate fighting amongst children, nor do I force my children to do house work}

Love it...reminds me of several years back, when I taught preschool/daycare, and anytime I tried to clean and organize, all the kids wanted to help. So I'd give them a diaper wipe and let them clean the tables, chairs, etc. If nothing else, it kept them busy for a few minutes!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love it! Now you need to get them to agree that they will continue to fight over the cleaning when they are teenagers. :-) This was a darling project and we are so glad you linked it up this week to Inspiration Friday!

ReplyDeleteThis is BRILLIANT! I must say, I don't advocate fighting among children, but I do make mine work. (At 12, 10 and 6 they better earn their keep! Ha!) These pails will be something they remember and do with their own kids. The picture card was a great idea. You are a good mom!!! jules

ReplyDeleteIt is a crime in my house if my daughter cannot help take out the trash:) I love your idea and the fact that all of the items, if not already on hand, can be purchased at the dollar store. When my kids want to help clean, i give them a squirt bottle with water and vinegar in it (about a 50/50 mixture) because that is what I use to clean just about everything.
ReplyDeleteUm...that's adorable Amanda. I love the little lists and the buckets are too cute!
ReplyDeleteMy kids would love that.

This is totally perfect for me today. I want to get my kids involved in cleaning up around the house but don't want them to run crazy with Windex. I can easily set them up with these supplies and we can all work together.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh this is SUCH a cute idea!!! I'd love it if you'd email me the cleaning list that you made. Thanks for linking to the Weekend Warrior Link Party. :)

ReplyDeleteI still can't believe that you've managed to motivate your boys to help you in the cleaning. I guess you've turned the work into a game and it was a lot pleasurable for all of you.
