Pavement Diving / Surfing

I learnt a new skill today, well actually learnt is a bit of a stretch, I really just reaffirmed that I could still make a total arse of myself.

Ethan, the flighty little so and so, made a run for the road (every parent’s nightmare), I made a grab for him but this kiddo is super quick.

I managed to clip Ahren in his seat, spun around and began chasing after Ethan, when my two left feet, hindered by bloody flip flops (darn this unseasonably warm weather), trip me up and throw me down to the ground.

Nice.

Thankfully my friend’s partner raced after Ethan and scooped him up out the road before any harm came to him.

I meanwhile, pick myself up, and notice searing pain in my knees and hands, not to mention the ENORMOUS dent in that thing we call pride.

I mean really, don’t we leave falling over our feet at school? The odd drunken stumble is somewhat expected / tolerated, especially if new shoes are being worn.

Sadly, I must admit this isn’t my first attempt at Pavement Diving.

A while ago I was walking along when a fence appeared out of nowhere and deliberately tripped me up. The fence could only have been 10 inches high at the most, which really is just a public nuisance, and should never have been allowed during these health and safety conscious times. This Pavement Dive left me in hospital with doctors debating whether or not to amputate my leg just below the knee! I’m pleased to say, I still got my leg!

Whist I’m rather certain that this most recent dive shan’t leave me hospitalised, I do look as though I’ve been in a fight.

My left hand has a slight ‘I’ve just punched someone’ appearance, yeah; you should see the other guy pavement.

My knees are swollen, cut and bruised, almost like I saw a wall and deliberately attacked it with my knees, as you do.

The palm of my right hand is all scratched up, the kind of wound you can only get from ‘Pavement Surfing’ or rubbing your palm obsessively with sand paper.

My big toe also has a cut.

The good news, Ethan is fine.

I however, am cut, bruised, sore, upset, and totally pissed off at Ethan.
I know it’s something kids do, the whole running off malarkey, but man oh man; I can’t handle that kind of stress. We almost lost him a whole bunch of times when he was a baby; the little tyke isn’t getting away from me that easy!

I think more than anything, I’m embarrassed. Aren’t we supposed to stop falling over when sober whilst still in single digits?

I think I may have styled it out pretty well. As well as a grown woman can after throwing herself at the pavement and sliding along it, so um yeah, maybe I didn’t .
But my little boy is still safe and well, even if he will be getting grounded for the next 18 years.

Not sure what my next new skill will be, perhaps walking on hot coals!
Hope your day has been less ‘interesting’!

Edit
Such a terrible night's 'sleep'.
I now realise that I'm much to old for such shenanigans.
My right knee is puffed up like a football, ouch!
I'm off to cry into my coffee and convince my kiddos they really don't want to sit on my knee!
Have a lovely day.

Mini Bucket Spring Craft

Last year I asked hubby to order me 12 of these rather cute little buckets.

Knowing me as well as he does, he went and ordered 100!

I got dizzy just thinking of all the different crafty things I could do, plus he gets to make some cute mini bucket candles, hmmm, maybe that’s why he ordered so many!

I used a bunch of these to make some festive tea light holders.

This time round I decided to give some a Spring makeover.

Using some pretty shades I spray painted a few buckets.

I then tied a length of ribbon across the recess of the mantel, I have two screw hooks attached to the underside of the mantel, they can’t be seen and most importantly, won’t fall out!

I then used small pieces of ribbon to attach each mini bucket to the ribbon across the mantel.

I stuffed some tissue paper in to each bucket, and then popped a few ‘chicks’ on top.

For Easter I will change the chicks out for some mini chocolate eggs as a treat for the boys.

Such a quick a simple idea!

Pin Wheel Bunting ~ A Craft First

Can you believe that up until this weekend I had never made a pin wheel!

Crazy huh!?

We saw some pinwheels earlier in the day and I told Ahren we would make some the next day. That evening I looked them up just make sure I knew what to do, and before I knew it I had made a whole bunch of them!

They are the most ridiculously easy thing to make and rather addictive, great for when chillin’ in front of the telly!

I decided the colours would be perfect against the play/craft room wall and decided to string them together to make some pin wheel bunting.

Gorgeous!

Want to make your own?

Start off with a square piece of paper. I used papers from a pack of scrapbooking paper which was decorated on one side.

Flip the paper over, so the plain side is facing up. Using a ruler and pencil, drawer two lines; going from corner to corner via the centre of the paper.

Make a dash along each line approximately 1 inch from the centre.

Cut along your pencil lines, STOP, at the dash marks.

Using a brad, pierce a corner of each triangle, you want to use the same corner in each triangle.

Once all 4 triangles are pierced and secured on the brad, poke the brad through the centre of the pin wheel.

I love brads, tiny little colourful sweetness, especially those fabric covered ones.

Open up the brad and fold the pieces back.

Make up a whole bunch.
Pierce a small notch in the tip of one ‘flag’ and thread through a length of bakers twine. Repeat until all the pinwheels are attached. Hang the pin wheel bunting.

My boys said the decorations were beautiful, ahhh. You see that 'mark' on the wall that's  Thomas Tank Engine sticker which I'm not allowed to remove!

Anyone else made anything beautiful lately?

Mother's Day Flowers - 3 Ways to Display Flowers

Sunday was Mothers Day here in good ol’ Blighty, and I had a lovely day with my boys.

I got several bunches of daffodils, one of my favourite flowers, the other being gerbera’s.

I didn’t want to just bung them in a plain old vase so instead decided to spilt the flowers 3 ways.

{1}
Most went into a vase, which in its own is kinda boring.

But just by looping a piece of ribbon and 2 pieces of ric rac around the vase, both the vase and flowers are given a pop of interest.

Looks great don’t ya think! You could also co-ordinate the ribbons and ric rac to suit the holiday or season, instant decorating.
{2}
The next batch of flowers was divided between these bottles I purchased last year.

Each one has a wire handle and 2 butterflies. I like them okay, but they seem to be  missing ‘something’.
I decided to add a strip of decorated tape round each bottle.

I added some water and popped in a few daffs into each bottle.

They look perfectly Spring~ish on our mantle.

{3}
With a few stems left over I decided to place these in the bedroom.

I don’t have any small vases, but I did however treat myself to a Starbucks drink the other day, the empty bottle is perfect for a few stems.

I washed the bottle and removed the labels.

I then added a strip of tape, just like I did on the other bottles. Popped in a splash of water and a few stems.

I placed the bottle on the vanity, and now have some bright blooms to cheer me up at the ever earlier wake up time my boys seem to be inflicting on me lately.

So, now you have 3 simple updates for giving flowers an extra pop of colour and interest.

Am I the only one who didn’t know that daffodils weren’t all the same?

These ones growing in our garden are the regular type I’ve always known.

But these, from the local florist, have a kind of shabby effect with the different layers, who knew!

Hope your week is off to a great start, today the sun is shining, there are no clouds in the sky and laundry blowing in the breeze, perfect!
