Weekly Challenge 2 - The Launch Pad

Hi all,

I read 'Launch Pad' and wondered why Toni was talking about rockets! But nooo, it's the dreaded entry way, a location to keep things neat when you enter / leave the house.

I already don't like this challenge, it reminds me just how much I dislike the entry way to my house, it's to narrow and dark, with no room for anything!

So for me, this really will be a challenge, at the moment the entry way has to house, coats, bags, shoes, a double buggy and any number of random items that seem to lurk in that area.

Honestly, what am I meant to do with this space? I have asked if I can knock that wall on the left down, but Spencer says no! So I shall have to come up with some imaginative ideas, I shall let you know what I come up with!

  1. Wow, what an odd space. Do you have a coat closet? Or could the stroller go in your garage? Good luck!

  2. I too hate my little entry, I'll post about it soon. You do have a dilema here. My only thought it to have long shelves high up above heads and maybe have labled bins for hats, mittens, etc... Store shoes up there that are dry. Outside toys...Put only one hook per family member to make yourself put other coats in other coats away in other closets. My husband put up 12 hooks in our entry and now it looks like our master closet because I think that if it all fits it should all be there. It's terribly cluttered. Anyway, I am rambling. Hope you come up with a solution.

  4. wow, that is small. What is on the other side of that wall? which room is it? I'd be tempted to take it down...but then again, we just move walls when it suits us, lol!

  5. I definitely have some of the same issues. I think I'm going to place soem hooks into molding and put two rows of them up to give us more hanging space and spread things out so I don't have a ton of thing sticking out into my space. Good luck!

  6. I so want to re-vamp my entry way to make it cute AND functional, but I just don't have much to work with. So I know where your coming from. I have no suggestions, :-) sorry. But I'll be dropping back to see what you come up with.... maybe a little inspiration for me?!?!?

  7. Well, you may not be able to use your front entry with a tiny area like that...do you have a back entry area? That's what I use for our launching pad area {nope, not rockets}. The double stroller could be tough! If you search blogland, I'm guessing you'll get lots of great ideas and you might surprise yourself what you can come up with!

  8. That is a narrow space..I wonder if you just had hooks on the wall instead of the shelf if that would open it up the space. Do you have room for a small bookshelf underneath the hooks for shoes and baskets? I think just removing the big shelf might make it feel a bit more open. Good luck!
