Adventures on the South Downs

I consider ourselves incredibly blessed to live on the doorstep of the South Downs, our most recent visit only cemented our love for the big outdoors.

South Downs

I wanted to get us all away from the trappings of phones, computers, tablets and whatever else makes us unsociable sods in our own homes.

Once up on the Downs the boys went off exploring; they climbed hills…

Atop a hill

…they searched for Eastbourne…

…bounced on the bouncy grass…

…contemplated running down a hill…

…debated the best way to roll down a hill…

…then rolled down a hill…

We saw a ridiculous number of these caterpillars.

I was kinda surprised at the number of cowslips we saw on the South Downs, for some reason I just didn’t expect to see flowers up there!

Between the cowslips and the obligatory rabbit poop which is everywhere on the Downs were daisies, daisies for days!

Eventually we had to head home, but being the adventurous types we went a completely backwards new to us route and found the most delightful picturesque lane…

…I foraged a few wildflowers, amazing what grows on hedgerows and along roadsides…

…which made the perfect May Day posy!

With the crazy hectic schedules that make up our Mondays to Fridays, being able to get away from everything, even for just a few hours on the weekend is such a joy.
